Acoustic Guitar Neck Build

Acoustic guitar necks are complex enough that they get their own department of our shop! Each acoustic guitar neck is constructed of solid mahogany or maple. Mahogany is inherently light and has low mass, so in order to get it to ring like he wanted, Bill Collings decided to fit each one with four strips of spring steel, two on either side of the truss rod. This adds mass and redirects string vibration back to the body for enhanced tone. We also utilize a hybrid mortise and tennon/bolt neck joint that allows us to avoid filling the neck joint with glue. This allows for much easier and less destructive adjustments of the neck angle over the life of the guitar should the need arise for maintenance.
